The night I first came to observe this women's harmonizing chorus, they sang a song at the end I had never heard of before called “It's the Music.” I was drawn in by the simple melody, the balance of the parts and the power of the words…
“It's the music that brings us together.
It's the music that brings joy untold
Those sweet melodies, those grand harmonies,
Light a fire that burns in my soul.
When storms roll around,
When life brings us down,
When trouble and strife come our way,
It's the music that brings us together,
But it's the friendships that make us stay
Sharing music with friends
Fills our hearts with song each day.”
One of the singers started crying at the beauty of the words and the women near her surrounded her, just touching her and rubbing her shoulders. It was such a touching moment that I decided I needed to find out more. Six months later, I've competed in regionals, earned medals with my sister harmonizers, developed my singing voice in new ways, and made very special friendships I believe will last my life. I'm never leaving now. These women are home.
